The Tugboat on the Nanticoke River in Vienna, Maryland photo was what started Katelin Murphy Photography! Since I was younger, I loved taking photos but I have a Nikon D40 at my house that I rarely used. So, one day I decided to keep in with me, that way if I ever really got inspired to take a photo on anything I would. 

I was on my way to an appointment, traveling West on Rt. 50, going across the Vienna bridge. Traveling across this bridge always reminds you to have lovely it really is to live on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. The scenery can be so beautiful. 

This day was a day like any other, The water was completely still, the clouds were full, and I saw a Tugboat coming down the river as I crossed the bridge. It was absolutely stunning. 

Knowing I was going to be late for my appointment, I took the risk. I went down to the open area by the water in Vienna and waited for this tugboat to come by. I laid on a floating dock and took this photo with my Nikon D40 with an 18mm lens. 

Fast forward, 8 months later...

I kept taking photos and figuring out more about what I love as a hobby. I never thought that I would be someone to take scenic photography and better yet even gets photos of wildlife. It became something I was intrigued by. So, I signed up for the 2017 National Outdoor Show marketing the work I had done through the year so far and see if I could sell some of my prints. 

A man came up to me at the National Outdoor Show, and asked, “do you know who’s dirt that is?” I responded, “no I do not”, as he said.... “that’s my dirt.” Come to find out he was the owner of the Enterprise that the tugboat was shipping for that day. His offices were located up in Baltimore and he ordered two 20”x 30” prints from me. Later talking to him, my Grandfather had worked for his company in the ’80s as an engineer.  Goes to show...Things have a way of coming around in a full circle.
